What is Neurofeedback?

Neurofeedback.

Neurofeedback is a form of biofeedback for the brain. It provides the individual with opportunity to learn to manage their brainwave activity. Changes in brainwave activity can lead to changes in symptoms of childhood trauma, PTSD, ADD, ADHD, depression, anxiety, panic attacks, traumatic brain injury, defiance and aggressive behaviours, sleep, and other problems.

During a typical neurofeedback session, one to two sensors are placed on the scalp to monitor EEG brainwave activity. Brainwave activity is then presented on a computer screen. The individual can then be motivated to change their brainwave activity through feedback provided by a computer game directly linked to their brainwave activity.

Neurofeedback is a safe and efficient treatment option for a range of difficulties regardless of age. Individuals can often notice changes in symptoms within the first 5 weeks. For further gains to be made and changes to be maintained, greater number of sessions will be required depending on the presenting difficulties. Phil will be able to advise you of how many sessions may be needed following the initial Neurofeedback assessment.
